Why exercise should be a tradies best tool
Posted: August 17th, 2020As a tradie, you are probably aware your body is one of your most valuable assets for your job. And just like any other asset, it needs to be maintained regularly and properly. Being a tradie of any kind is very physical and can be quite taxing on the body; this is why exercise should be a tradies best tool.
The benefits of exercise are undeniable, but in the hard-knock life of a tradie, regular exercise becomes essential. There are so many reasons for this but a few key ones are as follow.
Longevity
The career of a tradie is a long one, think of all the time spent on the broom as an apprentice or all the times you’ve made it to the job site before the suns even out of bed. A lot of hard work and sacrifice goes into the development of a tradie. So why would you not want to ensure all that hard work pays off for as long as possible. Exercise is the key to ensuring the mind and body can keep performing day in and day out until that glorious day of retirement comes around.
Performance
From start to finish a tradies day is full of physical exertion, nearly every aspect of the job involves some kind of lift, pull, push, hold or carry. All these things can take a toll on the body and its energy levels. If the body isn’t well prepared for this you will probably feel drained by the end of the day. And by the end of the working week, your body is going to hate you. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is going to set you up to tackle the whole day without any problems. You will be able to perform tasks quicker, easier and with fewer mistakes caused by fatigue. This will make your boss happy and no doubt it will make you happy which leads on to our next point.
Mood
The link between exercise and mood has been established for quite a while. It is shocking though, how many people are still unaware of how many benefits exercise provides to mental health. During exercise, several different chemicals (serotonin, dopamine, etc.) are released in the brain. These can help combat depression, improve sleep quality and a load of other amazing things that you can read more about ‘here‘. A happy worksite is a great worksite, it is also a more productive and safer worksite.
The kind of exercise and when you do it is very much up to the individual as everyone has different needs and opportunities. A 10-minute morning workout routine, or a 30-minute evening yoga flow, whatever you can fit in will help. Your boss will get a more productive worker. Your family will get more energy and better quality time spent out of you. But the lack of aches and pains, the increased smiles and laughter and a body that is working for you, not against you, those are the real benefits.
